On March 27, 2026, Asian-American contemporary dance company Kun-Yang Lin/Dancers will lift the curtain on their final home season with “Echo and Flame/Fenghuang Awakens.”
Held at the Mandell Theater in Philadelphia, the concert program will feature favorites of the company’s repertoire as well as several premieres:
Fire Ritual Dance/Fenghuang In Us: This world premiere from Kun-Yang Lin is described as a “ritual-inspired journey shaped by ancient Confucian practice, the elemental power of fire, and the myth of the Fenghuang. Through five “chapels”—Wisdom, Fire, Fenghuang, Transformation, and Us—Lin takes the audience on a journey of inner reflection and unfolding possibility.” The work features music from composer Dayn Ng and Taiko performance by Joe Small.
17 Moves/In Memory of Gus: A tribute to late dancer Gus Solomons Jr. Developed during the pandemic, the work features music by Cory Neale, and will be performed by three different dancers on each performance of its run.
The concert program will run on March 27 at 7:30, with two performances the following day at 2:30 and 7:30 PM.
There will also be a Special Preview Event on February 27, with an open rehearsal, preview, and artist discussion at the CHI Movement Center. Attendance is free but registration on their website is strongly encouraged.
Praised for their inventive choreography, the company has performed at dance festivals and houses in Germany, Korea, Mexico, the United States, and Lin’s native Taiwan.
