On March 10, 2026, the New York Philharmonic announced the lineup for their upcoming season. Beginning in September, this new season formally marks the beginning of their partnership with incoming Oscar L. Tang and H.M. Agnes Hsu-Tang Music & Artistic Director, Gustavo Dudamel.

The announcement also saw a media event where Dudamel was joined by company President and CEO Matias Tarnopolsky for a conversation to further discuss this momentous undertaking. The discussion was opened with brief remarks by Broadway’s own Lin-Manuel Miranda.

“Tonight feels like one of those uniquely New York nights, those moments where something new happens, nearly 200 years into the New York Philharmonic,” began Miranda. “This season, for the first time, the orchestra will be led by a Latino music director. This isn’t just the start of a new tenure, it’s the start of a new chapter for the philharmonic, an orchestra that belongs to all of New York, not just a concert hall but a whole city of artists, neighborhoods, collaborators, and more. And if you know Gustavo, you know what he brings everywhere he goes, joining curiosity and possibility.”

“As I begin this new chapter with the New York Philharmonic, I feel that every step of my life — as a student, as a teacher, as a musician, as a citizen — has led me to this moment,” said Dudamel. “This season is built on a single belief: that music, like this great city, can unite us across cultures, generations, and art forms, in a single, shared human experience. When we truly listen together, we can begin to imagine a better world. This season is an invitation to honor the past, embrace the present, and envision a future filled with more beauty — to remember not only who we are, but who we can become.”

“At last, the Gustavo era of the New York Philharmonic is here — and, with it, bold musical and artistic ideas that reach across the city, embrace communities, explore genres, and celebrate collaboration,” added Tarnopolsky. “As we’ve seen in Gustavo’s visits over the past year, the Orchestra is in beautiful form, ready for this dynamic partnership to take flight. The inaugural season of Gustavo Dudamel and the New York Philharmonic reflects the wonderful ideals we share: connection, creativity, and the conviction that music is for everyone.”
