Lisette Oropesa & Lawrence Brownlee Lead Metropolitan Opera’s New Production of ‘I Puritani’

The Metropolitan Opera is readying to send off the year of 2025 with a new production of Bellini’s ‘I Puritani.’ Premiering on December 31, the production marks the first new staging of this work in over 50 years.

The cast features soprano Lisette Oropesa as Elvira and tenor Lawrence Brownlee as Arturo Talbot, two singers have distinguished themselves in the repertoire of bel canto. The cast also includes baritone Artur Rucinski as Riccardo Forth, bass-baritone Christian Van Horn as Giorgio Walton.

Designer Charles Edwards will be making his directorial debut, having previously worked on four prior Met productions starting with their 2009 staging of ‘Il Trovatore.’ Edwards’ team includes costume designer Gabrielle Dalton, lighting designer Tim Mitchell, and movement director Tim Claydon. Conductor Marco Armiliato will return for his third New Year’s Eve gala premiere with the company.

The production will run for five performances through January 18, 2026, with the January 10 show to be broadcast worldwide on their ‘The Met: Live in HD’ series.
