Curtis Institute of Music has announced the appointment of noted violist and alumna Teng Li to their faculty, effective as of the 2026-27 school year.
Currently the Paul Hindemith Principal Viola Chair of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Li is also a founding member of the Rosamunde String Quartet, which is represented by Curtis Artist Management. She has served for 14 season as principal viola with Toronto Symphony Orchestra, and served in the same role with Los Angeles Philharmonic.
“I’m incredibly honored to return to my alma mater in this new capacity,” says Li in a press release. “As a student, my time at Curtis was life changing. My teachers gifted me unwavering support and enthusiasm and encouraged me to become the best musician I could be. After many years of performing and learning from some of the most inspiring musicians of our time, I’m ready to share my experiences with this next generation, and endeavor to provide the same level of support and guidance I once received.”
Her appointment coincides with the departure of two longtime viola faculty members, Misha Amory and Hsin-Yun Huang, who have been with the school since ’06 and ’11, respectively, as they ready for teaching and performance commitments closer to their homes in New York City.
